This is a pretty book: lots of gorgeous color photos of gorgeous Siamese fighting fish ("Bettas") and glossy pages. That's its main, and only, selling point.Unfortunately, the info contained is mainly academic filler which is badly organized so that it's difficult to skim through and find the more practical bits, such as: 1. how often and how much to feed these fish, 2. how a Betta would do if mixed in with other fish in a large aquarium (answer: badly), 3. how often the water should be changed if a Betta is kept in a small filtration-less container of 1 gallon or less, 4. most common types of commerical food and which ones are better, etc. I could go on and on, but you get the idea.Thankfully, Petsmart has a liberal return policy...this one's going back pronto!
A nice little guide. Beautiful photos and useful information. Would have liked if it had photos of the many varieties of betta splendens with labels, descriptions. It is not comprehensive, but it is a good summary of care for beginners.
I was looking for a book that would give me information on care for my pet Bettas. I wanted to know everything there is to know about them so I can provide the best of care. And I found it in this book. I liked that Mr Goldstein went into detail in each chapter. For example in foods and feeding he gives details on how to raise some of the live foods that bettas like instead of just barely touching on the subject as so many books do. I feel I got more than I bargained for in this book and found it interesting to read about the history, characteristics etc. It is exactly what it says, a complete pet owners manual. Its a good reference manual if I should ever need it for either breeding or diseases and treatments.So, if your looking for a book that just gives you a little information on how to keep a betta in a itty bitty bowl and feed flakes, this is not for you. All others, I would recommend this one for sure.
The product is a good book, very informational about bettas and their history and diseases and types of bettas, but I personally would not classify it as a "Pet Owner's Manual". It includes a lot of information about keeping bettas, but seems to be more focused on the fish itself than keeping them in an aquarium. I think you could find a better help manual for keeping betta fish.
It's not perfect but the book goes into detail on how to keep your Betta alive for 20 years
This is a beautiful wonderfully descriptive book filled with exquisite pictures!! I just wish there was a little less about the genealogy and more about careing for your Betta Fish.
Beautiful book with excellent illustrations and typeface for easy reading. Most of the book deals with bettas in general, history, species variations, breeding, etc. My search was for information on caring for a single male betta in a gallon bowl. This book did not provide the practical advice and instructions I was seeking. The one I ordered which came closest to meeting my needs was Quick & Easy Betta Care (TFH Publications).
A great reference for the betta enthusiast.
